Stora Enso GIPO in Brief

The Stora Enso Guangxi integrated project, with a total expected investment of around 19.1 billion yuan RMB, is the biggest foreign investment ever in Guangxi province, and also the biggest in Stora Enso’s history. Operations are managed by equity joint-venture companies, established by Stora Enso, the Guangxi Forestry Group, the Beihai Forestry Investment and Development Company and IFC.

The integrated project will consist of two phases, starting with a consumer board mill with a capacity of 450,000 tonnes per year. This mill is located in the Tieshangang industrial zone 40 miles outside ofBeihai city. Total investment on the first phase will run to around 760 million Euros, and is expected to yield a return of 13%. It will provide the Chinese market with 450,000 tons per year of liquid packagingcardboard and other high-grade coated paperboard products. The construction of the pulp mill will be started after the board mill is up and running. Accordingly, 86,000 hectare of plantation providing raw materials for the project were made available in the Beihai, Nanning, Yulin and Qianlian regions. The tree plantations of GIPO are certified according to both the FSC?-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) and the CFCC, China Forest Certification Council.

The Stora Enso Guangxi integrated project will generate around 3,400 direct jobs and 25,000 indirect jobs in related industries. There are currently around 1,100 employees working on the project, of which at least 800 are from Guangxi province.

The project will be put into operation in Mid-2016, and it will help Stora Enso take root globally and develop in the fast-growing China market.
